The fjord and the mountains. Waterfalls, hundreds of thousands of fruit trees and lively settlements. The Hardangerfjord – the third longest fjord in the world – contains the best Norway has to offer. With a rich food- and cultural history, world-famous icons and unique nature experiences, it is easy to understand why Hardanger has been a popular destination for hundreds of years. The region, with the counties of Kvam, Eidfjord, Kvinnherad, Ullensvang and Ulvik, is an eldorado that is difficult to describe in words. You just have to experience it yourself.
Welcome to the beautiful Hardanger!
Oslo, Drammen, Hokksund, Modum, Hadeland and Ringerike
We drive from Oslo via Drammen, Hokksund, Modum, Hadeland and Ringerike over the Hardangervidda to Vøringsfossen where new vantage points have now been made, so we get the opportunity to see more of Norway’s most famous waterfall (not the highest). Those who wish can walk along the old road a few kilometers while the others are enjoy the ride in the bus with a coffee break. From there, the trip goes to the most beautiful hotel in Hardanger, Hotell Ullensvang which is run by Barbara Zanoni and Hans Edmund Harris Utne. Here we will stay two nights in a room with fjord view and dinner every night.
We are going walk a few hundred meters to visit a cider producer (and maybe buy a few bottles). The rest of the day we enjoy ourselves at the hotel and relish the beautiful surroundings. If there is interest in an excursion, we may take this on the fly, e.g. to the Barony Rosendal (not included).
On day three we will drive to Kinsarvik and visit the church from the 12th century. Then we drive over the beautiful Hardanger Bridge to Voss. In Voss we take the new gondola lift to the top and have lunch there. Then we check in at the new Scandic hotel and have dinner there.
On the last day of the trip, we visit the old Viking village in Gudvangen before we have lunch in Lærdal after driving Europe’s longest tunnel, almost 25 km long. Then we drive over Filefjell, through beautiful Valdres and back home.
